Choosing a Foundation Bitch

Careful selection of a top-quality bitch is the key to all successful breeding.
An old saying is that the "strength of your kennel lies in your bitches".

Research of pedigrees, books and going to shows will give you a good idea of what type of Akita you like.
Find a kennel that is producing a "type" that is consistent, talk with breeders and owners,
gain as much information as you can.

Try and collect information on the ancestors listed in the pedigree, it will give you an idea of what you bitch has
the potential to reproduce, but remember that you still have to choose your bitches mate carefully to build
a strong bloodline of your own.

Three Generations of Top Broods

It took several years before we found our foundation bitch, bred by Shirley & Carl Jones of the Oktumi Kennel, she
was a repeat mating of "Paris" Ch Oktumi Love Action, who as well as being a top show winning akita,
was herself Top Brood in 2000.

There were only two pups in the litter, the dam Ch Keskai First Love was herself Top Brood in 1995,
and her dam Anshee Storm Warning to Keskai was Top Brood in 1993.

Oktumi Action Replay at Stecal

Oktumi Action Replay at Stecal Top Brood 2002 & 2003

Oktumi Action Replay at Stecal better known as "Milly" was Top Brood 2002 and again in 2003.
She also gained 1cc & 2 reserve cc`s.

The things we wanted was type, soundness and an outstanding character and we couldn't of asked for anything more,
as we got all three in Milly.  She has the best of pedigree's, combining Top UK & American dogs together.
We bred Milly to our own Ch Redwitch Prince Consort at Stecal, which proved a successful mating producing a
champion and another reserve cc winner.

Another of "Milly x Boss" progeny is Stecal Different By Design "Dion" owned by
Matthew Bostock of Ruthdales Akitas.  Dion has produced 3 champions to date
in 4 different countries.

When bred to a "Prince Consort" son she produced our own Ch Stecal`s Step Out With Style.
Milly was later bred to "Prince Consort's" half brother Ch/Nor Ch Redwitch Dancing in the Dark
which produced a New Zealand champion and a Norwegian champion.

Milly is now ten years old, spayed but still is the "queen" of our kennel.

Do remember that the faults of your foundation bitch will be evident in your puppies
for generation - select carefully.
